The Covid-19 pandemic is causing trade to plummet, exposing the fragility of some critical supply chains and pushing the global economy toward a recession.

Emerging digital innovations such as blockchain and other distributed ledger technologies (DLT) may offer some solutions to trade-related challenges resulting from the pandemic. Embracing the potential of these technologies will require an innovative spirit among the private sector and public sector alike, supported by an enabling policy environment which encourages adoption and experimentation.

Key questions:

  1. What are some successful initiatives from around the world utilizing new technologies to address trade-related Covid-19 challenges?
  2. How can the WTO (and others) support governments, in particular those in developing economies and least developed countries (LDCs), embrace these new opportunities?

Continue the conversation in the dedicated chat on the Beyond Trade Network.

This session will be simultaneously translated into French, Spanish and English (when needed) via the Interactio application, by entering the code GTW2020 (please use headphones). Open the application in your Web browser or download it for iOS Mobile App or for Android App.
