PUBLIC, IN-PERSON EVENT

Venue: WTO – Library

An enduring challenge in trade capacity building is how we can create products that are universally accessible, relevant, and provide enduring impact in the face of staff turnover and a rapidly changing policy landscape.

The Geneva Trade Platform’s Trade Law E-Casebook, created to provide a free, current, comprehensive and modern alternative or supplement to existing textbooks offers a potential model.

Written and edited by Professors Gao, Hillman, Lamp and Pauwelyn, the E-Casebook is an entirely free resource now used in dozens of universities and by hundreds of officials and professionals around the world.

This session will discuss the problem the E-Casebook was designed to solve, some of the features that make it uniquely suited to generate lasting impact, and how its approach could be cost-effectively replicated to address other knowledge gaps in the trade policy world and beyond.

Please note that this event will be held at the World Trade Organization and will be limited to those who have registered for the WTO Public Forum.

Speakers:

  • Henry Gao, Professor and Member Advisory Board of WTO Chairs, Singapore Management University
  • Jennifer A. Hillman, Professor of Practice, the Georgetown University Law Center; Former Member, WTO Appellate Body
  • Joost Pauwelyn, Professor of International Law, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies
